There’s a story that circulates at Grand Central Atelier about a student who became so attached to their cast drawing that they couldn’t imagine parting with it. When it was shown in an exhibition, it was marked Not For Sale. But a persistent collector took a strong interest and, after much back and forth, finally asked, “Alright—what price would you accept?” The student named a figure far above what I have marked here for this cast. And, as the legend goes, the collector agreed, and the drawing sold.
As it happens, that student became my teacher, guiding me through the process of modeling form—a fundamental skill that I owe to his expertise. This mouth cast drawing holds deep personal meaning for me, and I’m genuinely content keeping it in my home. But if someone is interested, the price reflects what it would take for me to know it’s going to someone who values it just as deeply.
